Into The Unknown
In our never-ending pursuit to experiment with all types of woods and materials, we had the opportunity to build with hemp. We weren't sure how these hemphones would turn out, but to everyone’s surprise it quickly became a favorite passed around Grado. To be blunt, this is one of the best sounding Limited Editions we've assembled.
Customer Reviews
With age related high frequency hearing loss, I was hesitant to buy an upgrade from my SR225X headphones. The description of the Hemps on the Grado web site sounded as though they might be just right for me. And, they are. I’m extremely happy with the Hemps.
Honestly poor build quality for $450+. The only (maybe) saving grace is that the drivers seem to actually be quite nice and have broken in quite well. The resolution is good and impressive at loud volumes.
Beyond that, however, I really don't understand the appreciation for Grado. US manufacturing hasn't been relevant for decades and this is another reason why. The leather is imprecisely cut, the foam pads feel cheap and uncomfortable, the threading is already coming undone after 6 weeks of very light, affectionate use.
Again, if the drivers weren't good on these headphones, these would go straight to the bin. Impossible to keep on your head for more than 45 minutes. The adjustable plastic piece feels cheap, poorly machined, and continues to make it on all their headphones. It loosens over time, so you constantly have to then adjust, which just makes the listening experience fussy and tiresome.
Get some product design engineers to actually maybe design a comfortable product. Grado is prime example of audiophiles being the dumbest people on the planet. I tried to give this brand a shot on other people's recommendations but count me out for life. I will be selling these second hand to whoever wants to buy them.

These headphones made me realize I had never actually listened to a good pair of headphones before a day in my life. These have changed the game for me and whatever is going on at Grado, I hope it keeps happening.
Great sound! I wish the wires were covered in a silky braid, the plastic is super scratchy.
I also had the SR225x, but these The Hemp are simply fantastic. Their timbre is natural and fascinating. Thanks Grado.
