chosen materials. Sound is precise without any trace
of accentuations throughout the stated audio spectrum. Linear, detailed rich sound. These are truly a musician's caliber headphones. Exotic, but realistically priced. You can't go wrong with the RS/1x.

My new standard of reference
There will be no going back for me. These headphones were suggested to me by a very trusted mentor of mine, and I'm so glad I got them. I've been mixing orchestral film music with them for the last couple of weeks, and couldn't be happier about the clarity and accuracy of what I hear. On top of the sound, and as if that weren't enough, they just straight look cooler than most other headphones. There is nothing lacking.
I also like supporting a family-run business, especially when they've clearly worked so hard to develop such unique and great-sounding headphones.

Why did I wait so long?
I have been a hi-fi enthusiast for better than 50 years. In that time, I have had countless headphones from most of the major brand names and I have to admit there are many that are quite good, even amazing. The RS-1X is my first Grado and I am very impressed by the sound that comes from such an elegantly simple design that is beautifully crafted.
Various amplifiers and sources have been used to drive these and what strikes me most about the RS-1X is how natural and just plain "right" it sounds. At the moment I am using a Schiit Bifrost 2/64 feeding a Lyr+ amplifier and I am very pleased!
On a side note, I feel that the comfort of the pads is much better than expected. I have the L's and the G's from Grado directly. The clones found elsewhere are simply not the same.
I can only imagine what the GS3000X must sound like. They are next on my wish list.
Bravo Grado!

RS1x - Made for Enjoying Music
Love them! They're beautiful, well - crafted with quality materials, and sound amazing. They have a little retro flare to which I am partial. I love that I can email the owners of the company and that the company comprises generations, relying heavily on the human element.
I run the RS1x from a mounted ipad through a chain of Schitt Modi 3 dac, Lokius eq, and Vali2+ amp. The tube for the Vali2+ has been replaced with an Electro Harmonix tube. Increasing, with the Lokius, the 20hz (helps the bass response nicely) and decreasing the 2Khz bands works nicely for me. (slightly fatiguing for me until I adjust the 2Khz down) I like the upgraded cable (I opted for the 1/4" terminal as I can always get an adaptor if I want to run balanced).
After watching hours and hours of reviews on headphones from the well - known "audiophiles", they seem to be part of an agreement to disparage Grado straight away, if they talk of them at all. If you look at curves/graphs and listen to reference recordings to pick a headphone apart on some hyper yet completely inapplicable level, you don't want these. (Z reviews is actually mostly fair to Grado, I must say) If you want your music to take you to a special place, you will love these. And they are beautiful to display.
I do share a small gripe regarding the pads. They aren't nearly as bad as the reviewers would have you believe, yet could use a more modern touch. No way would I let this keep me from buying these. I highly recommend!

RS-1X Work of Art
I've read reviews of Grado equipment for years and finally reached a saturation point and just had to take the leap. I bought the RS-1X's because they seemed like a great headphone for the price. You get the beautiful woodwork and the look of quality with sound that is pretty much perfection. I've owned other brands and lesser quality phones before and always felt something was missing. They either felt like the music was screaming at me or the bass was beating my brains in. These things can be listened to all day, no fatigue, no pain just pure natural sound that doesn't miss anything.
I am hearing things in music that I haven't heard before. The sounds of a singer taking a breath, the tick of the drumstick on the cymbal. It makes listening to music an emotional experience. These are everything I had hoped they would be and so much more.
